We held our 9th Annual Christmas Extravaganza at the Lincoln Cultural Center. We provided toys and coats to 565 children. With continued support from Kankakee Fire Department, Lisa Dugan, Court Street Ford, Garden of Prayer Youth Center Employees, Friends of Alderman Emeritus Stevie Hunter and others we were able to bring smiles to children during the holiday season.

20th Year Anniversary & Gala

November 21, 2015

We held an elegant Hollywood red carpet themed gala at the historic Majestic Theater in downtown Kankakee. Garden of Prayer Youth Center celebrated 20 years in the business of "Keeping Families Together".

On that night, we recognized 10 that have made an impact on the lives of children and families in Illinois. Women of Impact awardees included Carole Franke, State Senator Toi Hutchinson, Deputy Director Denise Murray (DCFS), Attorney J. Imani Drew, Lizzie Clark, Lorine Samuels, Apostle Charlene Crosley, Commissioner Patricia Polk, Terri Menard and Garden of Prayer Youth Center's founder, Vurnice Maloney.

We also recognized Charlzetta Williams and Officer Melvina Edwards as rising stars in our community. This celebration also launched our "Believe and Build" capital campaign. Funds generated from this campaign will be used to build a facility dedicated to children and families that will provide opportunities for recreational, emotional, educational, and vocational support that will enable them to effectively combat poverty and improve their well-being.
